What is the best way to close an inter-dimensional rift?

Here's the set-up. A tear has formed between dimensions, and is only getting wider by the minute. What would be the fastest, safest, and most efficient way to close the portal? (Note: This is for fiction. I don't actually believe that there's an inter-dimensional tear in my living room or anything...)|||Depends in Star Trek they formed a warp bubble around the ship and parked it i the middle of the tear.
