How come inter-racial marriage hasn't destroyed the morals of the country like the conservatives said it would?

remember how in the 1940s and '50s the churches and religious conservatives said that if interracial marriage were legalized, it would decrease the moral standards our country is based on and cheapen everyone else's marriage and so on and so forth? How come that didn't happen? Also, are there any lessons we can learn from this with respect to the current gay marriage issue?|||You need to keep this straight... yesterdays southern democrats are today's liberals. Some of the same people that tried to stop integration of our schools are still in office! Some of the southern democrats were even in the KKK!

So when you try to point fingers at who the true racists are, your pointing a finger at yourself!|||You are confusing political and religious leaders. Although there were some churches, especially in the South, that degraded interracial relationships, most did not do this.

And all Christians agree the Bible is clear that as Christians we have no race. Don't lump religious ideas with secular social issues.

And the term conservative has changed over the years. Lack of education and understanding of this makes it difficult to have a "grown-up" conversation about this.

BTW, keep in mind our idea of "white" hasn't always been around. In America, the Irish,Dutch, Italian, and German have all been discriminated at some point of time. Don't be simple.|||I'm not a social psychologist or anything but I think it has something to do with: 1. Different races arent really that different, and 2. Interracial marriage has been going on for thousands of years in every society since the invention of society. I am not sure how interracial heterosexual marriage relates to homosexual marriage...as a concept the latter seems to be institutionally pretty new. I am sure once public opinion reaches a tipping point either way, public policy will change along with it. I don't know however if interracial marriage was ever illegal in the U.S.|||People will always be afraid of what they don't know. Most probably just didnt want it to happen so they made up reasons as to why it shouldnt be allowed. Me on the other hand, I just don't like fLags (tosh.0 haha).
