Did we used to look on inter-racial marriage the same way we look on pedophiles now?

Okay, this may sound really bad, but I don't support pedophiles. I think they're sick and all of them should be locked away.





But, we did used to say the same thing as a society about homosexuals, inter-racial couples and the like. Do you think one day pedophilia will be an accepted norm? Or will it always remain a paraphilia?





You may think this is sick, but ask yourself what the people back in those times would've said if quizzed about homosexuals or interracial relationships?|||A relationship between two consenting adults of the same gender or of different races does not harm anyone. It may offend some people, but that's not a legitimate reason for interfering with the couple's freedom. Laws against homosexuality or against interracial marriage are purely expressions of irrational prejudice; they don't protect anyone from harm.





A child cannot give meaningful consent to sex with an adult. An adult who has sex with a child does substantial harm to that child. Laws against pedophilia are not expressions of irrational prejudice; they are legitimate child-protection measures.|||It has happened at a time that there was sanctioned pedophilia, in Ancient Greece. Most of what is called "homosexuality" regarding the Greeks was a form of sanctioned form of pedophilia. The above answer mentions the notion of consent, so we accept homosexuality and inter-racial relationships because of the consenting aspect. I do not think that we will come to a time when we have sanctioned pedophilia (in the modern world). This is because, among other things, we treat our young better now than we ever have. At a different time they would have been another laborer, another hand. Or they would have not these treasured little angels, as their treated today. Children are used for constantly for limiting freedoms (not pedophilia as a freedom, but think of the movie rating system) and people jump on the band wagon. Thus, emotionally speaking, if it is an affront to a child, it will never become acceptable.|||There is the difference of informed consent. A child can't necessarily make a sound judgment or decision for his or herself about whether they should engage in sexual activity. Sex between informed, consenting adults is not comparable to sex between an adult and a minor.|||This is why you need reasons for things being wrong. Why do you hate pedophiles? There's your answer. (Because they rape children, in case you're confused.) Interracial dating and homosexuality harm no one.|||Humankind have a way of believing backwards.Negative and ill thinking is a forefront before sound thoughts.
