to my understanding, those born with both male and female genitalia are assigned a gender at birth by their parents and doctors or they are assigned a gender around 2-3 when their social habits begin to form. so who do the anti-gay marriage proponents believe inter sexuals should be allowed to marry and why?|||There really isn't one position on this question because the problems of the inter-sexed are complex. Being inter-sexed has many, many forms. Some can have simple corrections, some cannot. Many have an odd mix of X and Y chromosomes which renders them sterile. There are also many experts who believe that the person should not be "assigned" a gender by his/her physician, but should wait until they are 18-yrs old and let them decide what gender they best suits them.
The general position held by opponents of gay marriage is that the inter-sexed person can be married in accordance with his/her identified gender. Even inter-sexed persons identify themselves as more male or more female, and not as both equally.
The major issue with gay marriage is that it changes the definition of marriage. Every culture throughout all of history has always regarded marriage as between a man and a woman. So as long as the inter-sexed person can identify with a specific gender, and marry the opposite gender, then there should not be a problem.
A similar problem occurs with transsexuals who undergo gender reassignment surgery. They may be born one gender and then prefers to live as the other. They may looks, act, and be accepted as their newly adopted gender. Who can they marry? Some conservatives would accept they new gender based on social acceptance, and others would still claim their gender wasn't really changed, just mutilated.
